Review: Conclave

Day 6 of Oscars week! This post will contain spoilers.

Conclave

Summary

Conclave starts after the death of the pope, following the process of electing a new pope. Personal ambitions come into play as well as politics. While the candidates think they all know each other, a surprise candidate shows up, Cardinal Vincent Benitez (Carlos Diehz) who was secretly appointed by the late pope. Cardinal Benitez ends up winning the election, then confides to Cardinal Thomas Lawerence that he is intersex, and the late pope knew and still allowed him to continue to be a leader of the catholic church.

Review

Rating: 5/10

It was a good movie, the ending really surprised me

My Thoughts

This seems to be the predicted winner of the Oscars' best picture, I think there's better. While I admit the plot twist at the end surprised me, the movie failed to keep my attention throughout the film. Nothing particularly stood out to me that I could focus on and since the pacing was slow, my interest waned as the film continued.

As you can tell, I don't have much to say about this film. It challenges the traditional norms of the Catholic Church by having a priest who is intersex which was interesting, I liked seeing representation in media for a minority that is underrepresented. Though a lot of people enjoyed the film, I think they just enjoyed a plot twist they didn't see coming and don't factor in the rest of the film because of that. If the film was shorter, by about a half hour, it would've been a great film.

My Favorite Character

It's Bellini, solely because Stanley Tucci plays him. Thats the only reason.

Best Quote

"Judas" - Adeyemi

I love a good Judas quote.

An Inspired Playlist

I wasn't very inspired to connect this film to music, but I can pinpoint around where I would pick songs from, and it would be The Devil Wears Prada soundtrack and also Judas by Lady Gaga.

Oscar Nominations

Best Picture:  I think this film has a good shot at winning considering it is one of the more popular nominees that isn't currently drowning in controversy

Best Actor in a Leading Role:  Ralph Fiennes did good in this role; it just doesn't scream best actor to me in comparison to the rest of the category.

Actress in a Supporting Role:  I'm going to be completely honest; I don't remember much of Isabella Rossellini's character at all

Best Editing: It was okay, which I prefer as to editing being so bad that I dislike it

Best Production Design: The design was really great, when I noticed the details, they did add a lot to the film

Best Adapted Screenplay: It was good there's nothing more I can say for it

Best Original Score:  I surprisingly liked the score for this film, I liked the violin

Best Costume Design: The costumes were very detailed, and they were fitting for the setting

Scream (1996)

I recently rewatched Scream, one of my favorite movies so I figured it would be a great first review! Also, this will definitely contain spoilers after the review section so if you haven't seen it and you don't want spoilers only read the first two sections! Summary       Scream takes place in Woodsboro, California, and is centered around Sydney Prescott.  The town is hit by a string of murders, the targets being the teens of Woodsboro High School surrounding the anniversary of Sydney's mother's death (absolutely a coincidence). Sydney quickly becomes the focus of the investigation and the target of the killer. This film is a fantastic mix of comedy and thriller and an iconic 90s film. Scream is almost 2 hours long and directed by Wes Craven (other notable work includes Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes) One Sentence Review Rating: 10/10  I absolutely love this film because of the way it blends horror with comedy as a parody of a horror movie...

Review: High School Musical 2

While I've never seen the third one, usually I will choose to watch the second one over any of the three, this post will contain spoilers! High School Musical 2 Summary      The summer in between junior and senior year is happening and Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) Evans are going to relax at their family's country club while the rest of their peers' search for jobs. Sharpay still wants to be with Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), so she has him offered a job at the club, naturally he also helps all his friends, and girlfriend, Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) get jobs there as well. Sharpay tries to steal Troy away by giving him many gifts while tossing her brother Ryan to the side. Troy has to decide between accepting Sharpay's gifts and keeping his friends. One Sentence Review Rating: 6/10 While slightly better than the first, the movie is still not all that great.  My Thoughts      When people ask me about this film, which isn't often, ...

About Me

Sup! I don't know too much about blogs, so this is going to be a fun journey. A friend of mine had a book vlog a while back and I wrote for that once and it was pretty fun. I'm always told I don't know when to shut up about the film and to start a blog so I can bother people online about it. I love music, basically, all genres. Some of my favorite artists include Taylor Swift, Conan Grey, Queen, Lady Gaga, Fall Out Boy, and Keith Urban. Reading is also a big hobby of mine; Six of Crows is my favorite book, but I also love The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Hunger Games. One of my favorite things to do is to sit down and enjoy a nice movie or a couple episodes of a TV show before bed, but I don't really have people to talk about it to in extreme detail, hence the blog. My plan for this vlog is like an informal layout of my thoughts on films that I watch.  I watch everything from comedies to dramas to science fiction to documentaries. However, my favorite genre is...
