Dune: Part Two

Summary

As the second film in the series, Dune Part Two, continues the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he and his mother seek refuge with the Fremen, who live on the desert planet Arrakis. Paul rises to power among the Fremen due to his prophetic visions. It puts him directly in the sights of the Harkonnen forces. He also is internally conflicted, worried he could become a tyrant while fulfilling his destiny. Ultimately, he embraces his destiny in a battle for control of Arrakis. When he emerges the victor of the battle, it is made known that other factions are not happy with his actions, setting up the plot for the next film.

Review
Rating: 6/10
I think if I read the book I would like it more, but it was better than the first one

My Thoughts

It had been a while since I watched part one when I saw this, so I watched a quick YouTube recap. I can confidently say that I understood Dune way better hearing someone explain it to me than actually watching the film. I wouldn't recommend watching these if you aren't prepared to do some research or read the books either before or after the film. Though, I had an easier time following this film than I did the previous one. I still occasionally got lost but not as much, the films don't do well explaining what is happening or why it's happening if you don't already know.

I thought the acting was amazing though, everyone in that film was perfect from a non-dune fan standpoint. Obviously, I have to mention Zendaya because I was so glad she was actually in this film. Using her in part 1 when she appeared in dreams a few times made the advertising feel slightly misleading to me as someone who watched the film for Zendaya. But she had her moment, and she killed it.

The cinematography was also just amazing, my favorite part was the final fight scene with the sun setting just in the middle. You could get sidetracked just looking at how everything was set up and the angles and the colors. All of the factors that went into this film were so methodical and it really paid off.

My Favorite Character

My favorite character, the sandworm. I have no explanation nor reason for this I just think that the sandworms were the best. It might have something to do with the sandworm in Beetlejuice because I love that film, and I relate the two in my mind.

In reality if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Chani. She deserved better and I'll stand by that.

Best Quote

"May thy knife chip and shatter"

Not too many quotes stuck out to me, but this one did. It gives the same vibes as telling someone "I hope your favorite book gets adapted into a movie, but it's completely inaccurate" and I love that. Also, the way that characters delivered this line, especially during the final fight with the sun in the middle that I mentioned earlier, really adds to an iconic cinematic moment.

An Inspired Playlist

The Dune soundtrack is mostly instrumentals, I included the most popular one, Paul's Dream, though it's seven minutes long, which is crazy. Here are some songs I think fit the vibe of Dune:

Skyfall - Adele:  I think of this song in every action scene in every movie

Run Boy Run - Woodkid:  Also another classic for a running scene for an action shot

E.T. - Katy Perry:  They're aliens, no?

Silver Springs - Fleetwood Mac:  This is Chani coded to me, especially that subtle anger that is the undertone for the song

For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica: Another war song

Oscar Nomination

Best Picture - I have no objections to this

Best Visual Effects - This movie had AMAZING visual effects

Best Sound - The sound was sounding and that's all I could ask for

Best Production Design - You could tell they really put a lot of thought into the design, and it was beautiful

Best Cinematography - I loved the cinematography for this

Scream (1996)

I recently rewatched Scream, one of my favorite movies so I figured it would be a great first review! Also, this will definitely contain spoilers after the review section so if you haven't seen it and you don't want spoilers only read the first two sections! Summary       Scream takes place in Woodsboro, California, and is centered around Sydney Prescott.  The town is hit by a string of murders, the targets being the teens of Woodsboro High School surrounding the anniversary of Sydney's mother's death (absolutely a coincidence). Sydney quickly becomes the focus of the investigation and the target of the killer. This film is a fantastic mix of comedy and thriller and an iconic 90s film. Scream is almost 2 hours long and directed by Wes Craven (other notable work includes Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes) One Sentence Review Rating: 10/10  I absolutely love this film because of the way it blends horror with comedy as a parody of a horror movie...

Review: High School Musical 2

While I've never seen the third one, usually I will choose to watch the second one over any of the three, this post will contain spoilers! High School Musical 2 Summary      The summer in between junior and senior year is happening and Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) Evans are going to relax at their family's country club while the rest of their peers' search for jobs. Sharpay tries to steal Troy away by giving him many gifts while tossing her brother Ryan to the side. Troy has to decide between accepting Sharpay's gifts and keeping his friends. One Sentence Review Rating: 6/10 While slightly better than the first, the movie is still not all that great.  My Thoughts      When people ask me about this film, which isn't often, ...

About Me

Sup! I don't know too much about blogs, so this is going to be a fun journey. A friend of mine had a book vlog a while back and I wrote for that once and it was pretty fun. I'm always told I don't know when to shut up about the film and to start a blog so I can bother people online about it. I love music, basically, all genres. Some of my favorite artists include Taylor Swift, Conan Grey, Queen, Lady Gaga, Fall Out Boy, and Keith Urban. Reading is also a big hobby of mine; Six of Crows is my favorite book, but I also love The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Hunger Games. One of my favorite things to do is to sit down and enjoy a nice movie or a couple episodes of a TV show before bed, but I don't really have people to talk about it to in extreme detail, hence the blog. My plan for this vlog is like an informal layout of my thoughts on films that I watch.  I watch everything from comedies to dramas to science fiction to documentaries. However, my favorite genre is...
