Oscars Predictions 2025

It's finally the day of the Oscars! Here are my final thoughts about who should win each category vs. who is predicted to win by the New York Times and who I think will win!

Oscars 2025 Predictions

Best Picture

Predicted to win: Anora

Who I think will win: The Brutalist

Who I want to win: The Substance

As much as I loved Anora, I don't know if it is best picture worthy in my eyes. I think that The Brutalist had a more generic Oscar style to it which is why I think if Anora doesn't win it'll be The Brutalist. However, I would love for The Substance to win, everything about the film was perfect and it would be nice for a horror movie to win best picture.

Best Director

Predicted to win: Sean Baker (Anora)

Who I think will win: Brady Corbet (The Brutalist)

Who I want to win: James Mangold (A Complete Unknown

Again, I loved Anora, but I think that there are other better options, and I think Brady Corbet was also heavily considered. Like James Mangold, I may be biased because I spent more time reading about his perspective on filming A Complete Unknown and I really liked what he had to say about how he went about filming a biopic.

Best Actor

Predicted to win: Adrian Brody (The Brutalist)

Who I think will win: Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown)

Who I want to win: Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice

I think that using AI on his voice was absolutely a mistake and it hinders Adrian Brody's performance in my eyes. I think that Timothée Chalamet is going to secure the honor of youngest Oscar winner with the amount of effort he put into the role of Bob Dylan because it was an amazing performance. Though I would love to see Sebastian Stan get some recognition for his role as Donald Trump because I had a blast watching that film entirely due to how accurate Sebastian Stan's mannerisms were.

Best Actress

Predicted to win: Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here)

Who I think will win: Demi Moore (The Substance)

Who I want to win: Mikey Madison (Anora

Despite the prediction, I think Demi Moore is going to continue her streak (minus BAFTA) of winning awards and I will be happy with that because it's about time Demi Moore got some more recognition, especially for a role where she had a great performance. I would like to see Mikey Madison win; she had one of my favorite performances of the 2024 film year and is the reason why I do love Anora.

Best Supporting Actor

Predicted to win: Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain)

Who I think will win: Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain)

Who I want to win: Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain)

I think that there were really good performances in this category, I agree with the general consensus on this one; that the award should go to Kieran Culkin. His character in A Real Pain made me laugh and was a complex, mysterious character and Kieran Culkin did so well that an Oscar should be inevitable. Though if Edward Norton (A Complete Unkown) or Jeremey Strong (The Apprentice) win I would be equally as happy because I really enjoyed their performances.

Best Supporting Actress

Predicted to win: Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez)

Who I think will win: Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez)

Who I want to win: Ariana Grande (Wicked

I want Emilia Pérez to walk away empty handed, that being statistically improbable, I wouldn't be angry about Zoe Saldaña finishing her award season sweep with an Oscar, she was the best part of the film. My pick would be Ariana Grande though, which is shocking to me, but I think that her performance just went so far above the bar I had set that I can't not say that I want her to win this.

Best Original Screenplay

Predicted to win: Anora

Who I think will win: A Real Pain

Who I want to win: The Substance

All three of these films would be great winners. Anora was so much more realistic adding a pleasant, realistic twist to the Cinderella Story trope. A Real Pain strikes me as the most original which is why it's mentioned, I also think the story as a whole should be recognized on top of Kieran Culkin's acting. I would love for The Substance to win for the same reason as Best Picture and the abstract way they demonstrated a common message of films was my favorite statement made in any of these movies.

Best Adapted Screenplay

Predicted to win: Conclave

Who I think will win: Conclave

Who I want to win: A Complete Unknown

I think Conclave has the best chance of winning this category really based off its previous wins, but I'd like to see A Complete Unkown win, something about it just gives Best Adapted Screenplay.

Best Cinematography

Predicted to win: The Brutalist

Who I think will win: Dune Part Two

Who I want to win: Dune Part Two

Our of all the nominees, Dune Part Two had the best cinematography it was like the best part of the film, if you disagree, argue with a wall.

Best Original Score

Predicted to win: The Brutalist

Who I think will win: Conclave

Who I want to win: Wicked

The score of The Brutalist didn't stick out to me, Conclave's did which is why I think it might win. I'd like Wicked to get some recognition for its scores since it couldn't be nominated for Original Song

Best Song

Predicted to win: El Mal (Emilia Pérez)

Who I think will win: El Mal (Emilia Pérez)

Who I want to win: Never Too Late (Elton John) or literally anything else

If one of the Emilia Pérez songs has to win, it better be El Mal, it's the least objectionable but I legitimately want any other three to win and I don't have a preference.

Best Sound

Predicted to win: A Complete Unknown

Who I think will win: Dune Part Two

Who I want to win: Wicked

These are like my top 3 for this category. I just want Wicked to win because the sound was something that stood out to me when I watched it in the theater.

Best Editing

Predicted to win: Anora

Who I think will win: Wicked

Who I want to win: Wicked

I didn't really think Anora's editing was anything noteworthy like I do with Wicked. When I think editing for Wicked, I think of Elphaba flying at the end of the film where I think most of the editing came into play and that scene just blew me away.

Best Production Design

Predicted to win: The Brutalist

Who I think will win: Wicked

Who I want to win: Wicked

I'm SHOCKED that Dune Part Two isn't nominated but it makes my choice for winner easier. Wicked was just so detailed and so much of the design wasn't green screened that I'm in awe of how they filmed this movie.

Best Costume Design

Predicted to win: Wicked

Who I think will win: Wicked

Who I want to win: Wicked

The costumes were extravagant, colorful, and extremely detailed. I can't think of any other nominated film winning over Wicked for this.

Best Makeup and Hairstyling

Predicted to win: The Substance

Who I think will win: The Substance

Who I want to win: The Substance

The Substance is the only correct answer, the makeup effects are what made the film. The horror of the film was shown through the makeup effects, and they should win hands down.

Best Visual Effects

Predicted to win: Dune Part Two

Who I think will win: Dune Part Two

Who I want to win: Wicked

I'm absolutely split on which of these two I'd rather win their visual effects are of equal quality. That being top notch quality.

I left out short films, documentaries, and animated films because I didn't have time to get to them, but I'll be prepared next awards season! Let me know who you want to win!

Review: High School Musical 2

While I've never seen the third one, usually I will choose to watch the second one over any of the three, this post will contain spoilers! High School Musical 2 Summary      The summer in between junior and senior year is happening and Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) Evans are going to relax at their family's country club while the rest of their peers' search for jobs. Sharpay still wants to be with Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), so she has him offered a job at the club, naturally he also helps all his friends, and girlfriend, Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) get jobs there as well. Sharpay tries to steal Troy away by giving him many gifts while tossing her brother Ryan to the side. Troy has to decide between accepting Sharpay's gifts and keeping his friends. One Sentence Review Rating: 6/10 While slightly better than the first, the movie is still not all that great.  My Thoughts      When people ask me about this film, which isn't often, ...

Scream (1996)

I recently rewatched Scream, one of my favorite movies so I figured it would be a great first review! Also, this will definitely contain spoilers after the review section so if you haven't seen it and you don't want spoilers only read the first two sections! Summary       Scream takes place in Woodsboro, California, and is centered around Sydney Prescott.  The town is hit by a string of murders, the targets being the teens of Woodsboro High School surrounding the anniversary of Sydney's mother's death (absolutely a coincidence). Sydney quickly becomes the focus of the investigation and the target of the killer. This film is a fantastic mix of comedy and thriller and an iconic 90s film. Scream is almost 2 hours long and directed by Wes Craven (other notable work includes Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes) One Sentence Review Rating: 10/10  I absolutely love this film because of the way it blends horror with comedy as a parody of a horror movie...

About Me

Sup! I don't know too much about blogs, so this is going to be a fun journey. A friend of mine had a book vlog a while back and I wrote for that once and it was pretty fun. I'm always told I don't know when to shut up about the film and to start a blog so I can bother people online about it. I love music, basically, all genres. Some of my favorite artists include Taylor Swift, Conan Grey, Queen, Lady Gaga, Fall Out Boy, and Keith Urban. Reading is also a big hobby of mine; Six of Crows is my favorite book, but I also love The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Hunger Games. One of my favorite things to do is to sit down and enjoy a nice movie or a couple episodes of a TV show before bed, but I don't really have people to talk about it to in extreme detail, hence the blog. My plan for this vlog is like an informal layout of my thoughts on films that I watch.  I watch everything from comedies to dramas to science fiction to documentaries. However, my favorite genre is...
