Review: The Hunger Games

Continuing on with the series, this post will contain spoilers!

The Hunger Games

Summary

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawerence) lives in District 12. As a member of District 12 she must participate in the Reaping. A process where her name is put in a raffle and if picked, she is sent to the Capitol and forced to survive the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are a yearly tradition that serves as a reminder to why a District should not rise up against the Capitol. One boy and one girl are picked from the 12 districts and put in an arena to try to survive any kind of conditions the game makers can come up with. On this Reaping, Katniss is not called, but her sister, Primrose (Willow Shields), is. Naturally, Katniss volunteers and is swept away to the Capitol with about a 4% chance of returning to see her family again.

One Sentence Review

Rating: 10/10

This is a masterpiece film and translates the book to film so well

The Tiny Details

Everything about this film is just top tier. I've watched this film so many times my notes for this review are a little more chaotic than dissecting the film in any notable way. However, watching this and Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes back-to-back I realized that Coriolanus' final outfit in the newer film is the same style and a slightly lighter color of red as the first outfit you see President Snow in.

Overall, I have so much fun watching this film, it's so dark in the way of forcing children to kill each other as a way of forcing submission. It reminds me a lot of 'The Lottery' short story by Shirley Jackson and it's a really powerful way of describing a dictatorship in a way that is so clearly recognized by those watch. The characters are lovable, and the plot is interesting, and you get enchanted by the funny lines and the bright colors until you sit back and realize how messed up the plot really is. It's a really creative way of showing how people innately find violence entertaining.

Favorite Characters

Honorable mention: Cinna

I love Cinna and he deserves a mention, I just try not to get too attached because, ya know.

3) Haymitch

I fear my top 3 are basic but that's because the basic are just so good in this film. Haymitch has some of the best lines and I can not wait to learn more about his games in the new book.

2) Peeta

Bro just wants to go home and I respect that, he has mad painting skills and just wants to get along with the people he's surrounded by. Pure heart, adored by Captiol for a reason.

1) Katniss

Again, just love the ones who can't follow the rules and have to do what they think is best, Katniss is great because she has great lines too that make her such a loveable main character which so hard to do

Best Quotes

5) "It's a television show" - Haymitch

4) "You might wanna throw the sword" - Katniss

3) "Thank you for your consideration" - Katniss

2) "She said District 12 might finally have a winner, but she wasn't talking about me, she was talking about you" Peeta

1) "That is MAHOGANY" - Effie

Scream (1996)

I recently rewatched Scream, one of my favorite movies so I figured it would be a great first review! Also, this will definitely contain spoilers after the review section so if you haven't seen it and you don't want spoilers only read the first two sections! Summary       Scream takes place in Woodsboro, California, and is centered around Sydney Prescott.  The town is hit by a string of murders, the targets being the teens of Woodsboro High School surrounding the anniversary of Sydney's mother's death (absolutely a coincidence). Sydney quickly becomes the focus of the investigation and the target of the killer. This film is a fantastic mix of comedy and thriller and an iconic 90s film. Scream is almost 2 hours long and directed by Wes Craven (other notable work includes Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes) One Sentence Review Rating: 10/10  I absolutely love this film because of the way it blends horror with comedy as a parody of a horror movie...

Review: High School Musical 2

While I've never seen the third one, usually I will choose to watch the second one over any of the three, this post will contain spoilers! High School Musical 2 Summary      The summer in between junior and senior year is happening and Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) Evans are going to relax at their family's country club while the rest of their peers' search for jobs. Sharpay still wants to be with Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), so she has him offered a job at the club, naturally he also helps all his friends, and girlfriend, Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) get jobs there as well. Sharpay tries to steal Troy away by giving him many gifts while tossing her brother Ryan to the side. Troy has to decide between accepting Sharpay's gifts and keeping his friends. One Sentence Review Rating: 6/10 While slightly better than the first, the movie is still not all that great.  My Thoughts      When people ask me about this film, which isn't often, ...

About Me

Sup! I don't know too much about blogs, so this is going to be a fun journey. A friend of mine had a book vlog a while back and I wrote for that once and it was pretty fun. I'm always told I don't know when to shut up about the film and to start a blog so I can bother people online about it. I love music, basically, all genres. Some of my favorite artists include Taylor Swift, Conan Grey, Queen, Lady Gaga, Fall Out Boy, and Keith Urban. Reading is also a big hobby of mine; Six of Crows is my favorite book, but I also love The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Hunger Games. One of my favorite things to do is to sit down and enjoy a nice movie or a couple episodes of a TV show before bed, but I don't really have people to talk about it to in extreme detail, hence the blog. My plan for this vlog is like an informal layout of my thoughts on films that I watch.  I watch everything from comedies to dramas to science fiction to documentaries. However, my favorite genre is...
