Review: Middle School Worst Years of my Life

I give you; I'm running out of movies I've seen this year so here's one that I watched because it's a comfort movie

Middle School Worst Years of my Life

Summary

Rafe (Griffin Gluck) has been kicked out of more schools than one can count and there's only one school left that will take him. Unfortunately for Rafe, the principal (Andy Daly), is a super strict authority figure. He has a book of strict rules and is obsessed with getting the highest scores on standardized testing. Rafe decides to take his chances and become a vigilante to stand up for the student body against the oppression of the rules.

One Sentence Review

Rating 10/10

Does this deserve a 10/10, no, but this movie is special to me for literally no particular reason so it's getting 10/10

My Thoughts

Do these middle schoolers look like high schoolers, yes. Is it book accurate, no clue never read the books. Does the film in general make sense, absolutely not. Do I still love it, 110%. I think after a lot of self-reflection, I've realized why I enjoy this film so much. It's because I love dystopian media, specifically because I love seeing different rules and forms of government and their rules. It's why I like the fifth Harry Potter movie so much (third is still the best) and it's most likely why I enjoy this film. Crossing off every rule on a list and breaking them by pulling pranks is a film that is right up my alley when I think about it. I also loved that they came up with a reasonable way for Rafe to have the money to fund the pranks, I just really appreciate that small detail. I still pretend they're high schoolers in my head because there is no way that they're in middle school. Final note: The soundtrack is fire.

Favorite Characters

3) Principal Dwight

Is he the bad guy, yes. Does he have some of the best lines in the film, also yes.

2) Leo

I really liked Leo's character and carefree attitude. I understand that part of that comes from being dead, but I do not care. He's such an interesting way to portray grief but I vibe with it.

1) Calvin Giggles

If you thought that I wouldn't put the dog as the best character, you were mistaken

Best Quotes

5) "Georgia, you're gonna need at least, like, five cats before you're officially a grandma" - Rafe

4) "You don't have to go home but you can't stay here" - Teller

3) "Galvin Giggles is just big boned" Georgia

2) "Whoever did this was committed to their art" - Gus

1) "Looked just like the eel I had as a boy, it shocked me everytime I tried to pet him" -Dwight

Scream (1996)

I recently rewatched Scream, one of my favorite movies so I figured it would be a great first review! Also, this will definitely contain spoilers after the review section so if you haven't seen it and you don't want spoilers only read the first two sections! Summary       Scream takes place in Woodsboro, California, and is centered around Sydney Prescott.  The town is hit by a string of murders, the targets being the teens of Woodsboro High School surrounding the anniversary of Sydney's mother's death (absolutely a coincidence). Sydney quickly becomes the focus of the investigation and the target of the killer. This film is a fantastic mix of comedy and thriller and an iconic 90s film. Scream is almost 2 hours long and directed by Wes Craven (other notable work includes Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes) One Sentence Review Rating: 10/10  I absolutely love this film because of the way it blends horror with comedy as a parody of a horror movie...

About Me

Sup! I don't know too much about blogs, so this is going to be a fun journey. A friend of mine had a book vlog a while back and I wrote for that once and it was pretty fun. I'm always told I don't know when to shut up about the film and to start a blog so I can bother people online about it. I love music, basically, all genres. Some of my favorite artists include Taylor Swift, Conan Grey, Queen, Lady Gaga, Fall Out Boy, and Keith Urban. Reading is also a big hobby of mine; Six of Crows is my favorite book, but I also love The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Hunger Games. One of my favorite things to do is to sit down and enjoy a nice movie or a couple episodes of a TV show before bed, but I don't really have people to talk about it to in extreme detail, hence the blog. My plan for this vlog is like an informal layout of my thoughts on films that I watch.  I watch everything from comedies to dramas to science fiction to documentaries. However, my favorite genre is...

The Substance

Every year I like to watch all the Oscar-nominated movies for Best Picture. So, in honor of Oscars week, the next 8 will be dedicated to the Best Picture nominees, starting with my favorite. This post does not contain spoilers, but it does describe the film and the overall message as well as use a couple quotes.  The Substance Summary       The Substance  is about an aging actress in the industry, Elisabeth, who gets let go from her job due to her age (discriminatory much). She is devastated, until a doctor recommends her to reach out to a number. That number provides her with a substance that allows her to become a second, physically separate but mentally connected, person, a younger person. The catch, she still has to live in her original body every other week. This leads to the deterioration of her mental health as her second self gets everything she's ever wanted.
