Recently started watching Succession so really, I had to write a review for this one, this post will contain spoilers!
A Real Pain
Summary
Two cousins, Benji (Kieran Culkin) and David (Jesse Eisenberg) who used to be close reunite to go on a tour of Poland to honor their grandmother who recently passed. As they continue the tour it becomes more obvious how different the two are and tension resurfaces when David thinks about their past and how they got to where they are today.
One-Sentence Review
Rating: 8/10
A good film with some really funny moments and some really sad moments
Tiny Details
My favorite parts and my favorite characters kind of go together so I'm merging them today. Kieran Culkin in this film was just amazing; his comedic timing was great, and the complexity of his character was really interesting. It was a really thought-provoking portrayal of a character who makes a joke of everything but is really internally struggling. Meanwhile his on-screen cousin just fading into the background because he was quieter said a lot too. The improvised line "thanks David" by the tour guide really hit too because that was basically his David's role the entire film, just existing. While it was a really fun comedy, it also had the dark, Oscar-worthy side to it that made me think a lot about this film and how we see people.
