Review Teen Beach Movie

I reviewed High School Musical, which a lot of people acknowledge as their most memorable Disney Channel Original, so it's only fair I review what I think is the best original. This post will contain spoilers!

Teen Beach Movie

Summary

Brady (Ross Lynch) and Mack (Maia Mitchell) spent their summer surfing, but with summer coming to an end, Mack's aunt shows up to take her off to boarding school. Conflicted, Mack goes out for one last surf on her family's special surfboard when a storm hits, and Brady and Mack are transported into Brady's favorite movie musical, Wet Side Story. They assume they need another storm to get them back to their world. Luckily, there is a storm in the film, unfortunately, it's at the end of the film. While they're waiting for the movie to play out, Mack runs into Tanner (Garett Clayton) and stops him from meeting and falling for Lela (Grace Phipps). Lela falls for Brady instead and it messes up the plot of the entire film. Mack and Brady have to get the two to fall for each other and get the film back on track so they can make it home.

One-Sentence Review

Rating: 10/10

Not necessarily a good film, but the energy and the songs make it so nostalgic

My Thoughts

This film is ridiculous, but it does it so well, and it feels nostalgic despite it only being 12 years old. It's just as cheesy and ridiculous as High School Musical but it just does it better. Every song is super catchy and fun, and there aren't as many plot holes. Usually, I'm not a fan of rom-com films, but this is always an exception for me. I also think that Seacat is Jordan Fisher's best role; he has such good comedic timing. Kevin Chamberlin is also a villain in the film, and anything with Kevin Chamberlin automatically gets an extra point in the rating for me. Wet Side Story is also quite obviously just a spin-off of West Side Story which is inspired by Romeo and Juliet, so it feels like a good beginner film for those who are going to get really into theater one day.

Favorite Characters

5) Rascal

The way he just repeats one word that someone else says in a sentence continuously is so funny and a great bit.

4) Dr.Fusion

Kevin Chamberlin's character must be on the list of favorite characters without fail

3) Cheechee

I really like her lines and her overall vibe; it's quite entertaining to me

2) Butchy

His lines are golden and "Crusin' for a Brusin'" is the best song and it is on my daily playlist.

1) Lela

I really admire the amount of independence she displays for being a character in a 60's film and being the main female love interest.

Favorite Quotes

5) "The tide wouldn't take out a girl just because she's a biker" - Seacat

4)  "And this thing never won an Oscar" - Mack

3) "It could be worse, at least my favorite movie wasn't Tarantula's on a Train" - Brady

2) "JELLY" - Rascal

1) "You're crusin' for a brusin'" - Butchy

Scream (1996)

I recently rewatched Scream, one of my favorite movies so I figured it would be a great first review! Also, this will definitely contain spoilers after the review section so if you haven't seen it and you don't want spoilers only read the first two sections! Summary       Scream takes place in Woodsboro, California, and is centered around Sydney Prescott.  The town is hit by a string of murders, the targets being the teens of Woodsboro High School surrounding the anniversary of Sydney's mother's death (absolutely a coincidence). Sydney quickly becomes the focus of the investigation and the target of the killer. This film is a fantastic mix of comedy and thriller and an iconic 90s film. Scream is almost 2 hours long and directed by Wes Craven (other notable work includes Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes) One Sentence Review Rating: 10/10  I absolutely love this film because of the way it blends horror with comedy as a parody of a horror movie...

The Substance

Every year I like to watch all the Oscar-nominated movies for Best Picture. So, in honor of Oscars week, the next 8 will be dedicated to the Best Picture nominees, starting with my favorite. This post does not contain spoilers, but it does describe the film and the overall message as well as use a couple quotes.  The Substance Summary       The Substance  is about an aging actress in the industry, Elisabeth, who gets let go from her job due to her age (discriminatory much). She is devastated, until a doctor recommends her to reach out to a number. That number provides her with a substance that allows her to become a second, physically separate but mentally connected, person, a younger person. The catch, she still has to live in her original body every other week. This leads to the deterioration of her mental health as her second self gets everything she's ever wanted. Review: High School Musical 2

While I've never seen the third one, usually I will choose to watch the second one over any of the three, this post will contain spoilers! High School Musical 2 Summary      The summer in between junior and senior year is happening and Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) Evans are going to relax at their family's country club while the rest of their peers' search for jobs. Sharpay still wants to be with Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), so she has him offered a job at the club, naturally he also helps all his friends, and girlfriend, Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) get jobs there as well. Sharpay tries to steal Troy away by giving him many gifts while tossing her brother Ryan to the side. Troy has to decide between accepting Sharpay's gifts and keeping his friends. One Sentence Review Rating: 6/10 While slightly better than the first, the movie is still not all that great.  My Thoughts      When people ask me about this film, which isn't often, ...
